Another day in Izmir
Today I came back to the grassy steps by the sea.
There is everything I need here, I can get a snack, a desert and a beer without ever losing sight of the waves. I can sit all day with a smile on my face and a guitar in my hand watching the fishermen casting their lines and the ferries carrying their passengers back and forth across the bay.
It is a beautiful sunny day. For some travellers it will be their only sunny day here. I on the other hand never know how long I will stay in the places I visit. I am thankful to be able to live a life of freedom. I am incredibly lucky. I have everything I need but still I feel empty.
When I tell people about my lifestyle they often say I am living the dream. Little do they know that I often think the same of them. I have rarely been an important part of a social circle and companionship has always been fleeting. At this point I am prepared to live like this for the rest of my life although sometimes I have hope that my situation will change.
Until then I will sit on the grassy steps with a guitar in my hand watching the fishermen casting their lines and the ferries crossing the bay. I know the smile will come…
